New Scarface?

It looks as though the remake mill in Hollywood is once again thinking about churning out a revamped version of a classic film. In the firing line this time, Scarface.
Yes you heard correctly, Universal Studios is currently considering rebooting the classic Scarface for a new generation. Remember the classic 1983 version that everyone knows was also a remake the original came in 1932.
According to deadline, Universal and producer Martin Bregman, who worked on the 1983 version, are currently in active development meeting with writers to help construct the latest take on the film. The main plan is to maintain the original core to the movie, with an immigrant making it as a criminal kingpin, but bring it up to date with today’s world.
As they are only writing and planning at the moment there has been no announcement about anyone staring, although I bet there plenty of A-listers who would jump at the chance to star in this film. There is also no news about when they are planning to get it on screen, so watch this space for more details.

Elton John Biopic

It looks as though Elton John is currently planning a film about his life.
Elton’s Rocket Pictures is currently planning to create a musical/biographical fantasy flick based on the musical legends life and career, and the title of said flick? Rocketman.
Lee Hall is currently on board to help write the script, he also worked with Elton on the script for the musical version of Billy Elliot. The film will document the star from his early days as a piano playing wonder child all the way up to his outrageous costumes and million selling records.
Elton is going to be involved in the project as a producer but has said he doesn’t want the rough edges of his life smoothed off, and lets be honest there must be plenty, a sham marriage springs to mind.
There is currently no news on the choice of actor to play the star himself , but it should be quite interesting to see who he chooses, because lets face it Elton will be the one making the final choice.

Winstead To Get Smashed

Mary Elizabeth Winstead has signed on to star in new indie drama Smashed.
Also signed up for the project is Octavia Spenser and if everything goes according to plan Winstead will be joined on set by Aaron Paul, Nick Offerman is also in talks to join the film’s cast.
The film itself revolves around a couple that have a relationship based on a mutual love of alcohol. However this then sadly leads to AA meetings, where Winstead is sponsored by fellow cast member Spenser.
It all sounds a bit intense, but the project is being described, as a ‘dramedy’ so hopefully there will be plenty of comedy moments to lighten the otherwise dowdy feel the film seems to be projecting.
James Ponsoldt will be writing and directing the project, and plans to start shooting the film very shortly. So hopefully there will be more news soon about who has officially signed on and when it will be hitting our cinema screens.
