Sheen Joins Swan

Charlie Sheen has signed on to star in Roman Coppola’s A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charlie Swan lll.

It looks as though Sheen may finally be getting his life back on track after being fired from his show Two and a Half Men and is making his way back to Hollywood.
The film centres on a successful graphic designer, who according to the synopsis of the film has fame, money and charm, whose life turns upside down when his girlfriend leaves him.
Jason Schwartman will also be staring in the film alongside Sheen in an unconfirmed role.
Hopefully this film will finally help Sheen get his life back on track after his previous tumultuous year that was well documented by every celebrity gossip magazine around the world.
There is also word that Sheen will be making a TV comeback in a show called Anger Management.
So it looks as though we will be seeing a lot more Charlie in the coming year, and hopefully he’s back on top form.

Julianne Moore Going To School

Julianne Moore has signed up to appear in The English Teacher alongside Greg Kinnear.

The new indie comedy follows the story of high school teacher Linda Sinclair, played by Moore, whose life changes when a star student returns. The pupil returns back to his hometown after failing at making it as a playwright in New York, and soon makes things awkward for Sinclair.
The remainder of the story remains pretty unclear, such as how he makes things difficult for Sinclair or whether he has returned as a teacher at her school.
Newcomer Craig Zisk, who has had previous experience on television including shows like, Nip/Tuck and Weeds, will direct the film.
Greg Kinnear’s role has yet to be confirmed and so has the filming schedule for the director’s debut film.
Luckily he has the incredible talents of Miss Moore on his hands, so as long as the story is ok it should be a pretty good watch.

Keaton Lands a Penthouse North

Michael Keaton has landed a role in Penthouse North.
He will be staring alongside Michelle Monaghan in the new film that will be directed by Joseph Ruben.
The film will see Monaghan play a photojournalist who, after experiencing a tragedy has become a recluse from the world and refuses to leave her apartment. Things seem to be going well for her now that she has left the troubles of the outside world, that is until a sadistic criminal, Keaton, breaks in to search for a fortune he believes his hidden there.
With Ruben being a dab hand at the art of the thriller movie after directing the likes of Sleeping With The Enemy and The Good Son, and with two great actors in the lead roles, especially Keaton, this sounds like it has all the working for a brilliant piece.
Shooting for the film is expected to kick off in November.

DVD Review: Two and a Half Men Series 8

Originally posted on www.thefancarpet.com

After months of being unable to escape the media’s constant coverage of  the escapades of Charlie Sheen and his chequered personal life, you would be forgiven for forgetting that he actually had a day job acting on one of the biggest sitcoms on American television.

Now we all know he no longer has his day job on Two and a Half Men for reasons I’m sure we all know. But Charlie’s final 16 episodes in the hit comedy show have been released on DVD for your viewing pleasure, if you can call it pleasure.

The show has proved a hit with viewers and is quite funny with some laugh out loud moments, certain ones that spring to mind from watching this season have to be Charlie’s description of the orgy rules (I’m sure he already knew these prior to filming the show), an incident with a can of whip cream and a cockatoo with a rather weird fetish, which I wont discuss further with fear of spoiling it.

Along with these particular stand out moments the shenanigans of Alan at the beginning of this series are all quite amusing within themselves, especially after an incident with a pipe at his girlfriends house, but the show lacks that certain something that others have.

Where as the programme is funny, to me the episodes would be much better enjoyed if watched alone and then left for several weeks before watching the next one because after a while the jokes and scenarios become predictable and a little stale, ultimately lacking that element of surprise that hit shows such as Friends had.

Couple this with the realisation that the lead character in the show is basically a caricature of the actor playing him, it begins to leave the realm of funny and enters the realm of done before television.

The fact that the lead characters off screen personal life is more appealing, shocking, unpredictable and all round entertaining tells me that this programme has well and truly run its course, and with Charlie Sheen now off the show I don’t think even the attractiveness of new lead Ashton Kutcher could save this programme and once again make it funny.
