Recently, The Saturdays strutted their stuff on stage when they brought their successful Headlines tour to Manchester. Filling the gap as the U.K’s top girl group since the hiatus of Girls Aloud and the apparent disappearance of the Sugababes.
The Saturdays have truly conquered the charts. With eight successful top ten singles, three top ten albums and two previous tours, the girls’ latest outing did not disappoint. The sell out tour was a flamboyant escapade of bright colours, sparkles and sequins, packed out with hugely adoring fans whose deafening screams highlight Frankie, Mollie, Vanessa, Rochelle and Una’s popularity as the current top British girl group.
The girls belted out such hits as ‘Higher’, ‘Issues’ and ‘Forever is Over’, and unlike many artists in the current pop music market, they made a live interpretation, along with dancing in stiletto heels. This is an accomplishment in itself. The girls upped the anti half way through the show by tackling a medley of hit songs by Rihanna, and successfully pulled it off much to the crowds delight.
Although the girls did sing live, during the high notes the backing track did appear to get louder almost drowning the girls own vocals. However, when such megastars such as Britney Spears do not sing live, you cannot complain. The tour is extremely light hearted and fun, a true pop concert, and shows the group can give other bands like Girls Aloud a run for their money.
